Technical Inspection
What is technical inspection?
Technical inspection is an examination of a product, process, service, or installation or their design and determination of its conformity with specific requirements or, on the basis of professional judgment, with general requirements.
Civil Inspectors
All construction projects must follow a set of standards. Civil inspectors make sure those standards are being met through performing quality assurance checks. They also must examine proposed plans, along with social and economic effects of a construction project. In many parts of the world, they are also known as building inspectors.
Civil inspectors are responsible for
- Inspecting construction sites
- Reviewing construction plans
- Examining construction materials before and after the process
- Coordinating projects
Electrical Inspectors
Electrical inspectors make sure that the all of the electrical standards are met through consulting the electrical codes and international standards. For example, wiring and electrical components of a building must meet the designated safety codes. Not only must they recognize problems with electrical systems, but they also must provide instructions on how to correct electrical systems that do not meet safety codes.
Electrical inspectors are responsible for
- Examining the installation of electrical systems
- Investigating code violations
- Monitoring the electrical work of a construction site
- Advising contractors on construction codes
- Ensuring all the electrical safety aspects are met before and after maintenance is performed
Mechanical Inspectors
Mechanical inspectors examine commercial and industrial machines and related components to make sure that proper safety codes are being met. Many mechanical inspectors work in manufacturing using specialized tools testing the quality of products. These products can include: heating and cooling equipment, piping, tanks, and etc.
Mechanical inspectors are responsible for
- Running comprehensive tests with specialized equipment
- Ensuring proper safety standards
- Working together with industrial production managers
- Diagnosing problems with products and providing proper corrective action
- Examining material types used in different mechanical aspects
Non-Destructive Testing Inspectors
Non-destructive testing (NDT) inspectors examine structural and systems components to make sure they are functioning effectively and are without defects. Normally these are areas which are neither easily assessable nor visible. NDT inspection is becoming more and more common because it provides a balance between cost effectiveness and quality control, without causing damage to the materials being inspected.
NDT inspectors are responsible for
- Finding damage to a product, system, or component, without opening or disassembling it
- Inspecting areas or equipment which are not easily visible through using the proper tools
- Writing reports on the findings of an NDT audit
- Ensuring correct implementation of a project quality plan
- Working closely with the quality assurance manager and communicating NDT related issues to him
Welding Inspectors
Welding is an integral part of many industries. If an industrial product is manufactured with poor welding, the result could cause a major accident. That’s why it’s important for welding inspectors to routinely check welding quality. It is also to ensure that all health and safety standards are followed while a weld is being performed.
Welding inspectors are responsible for
- Ensuring that proper welding safety standards are being met when welding is taking place
- Inspecting documentation related to welding plans and specifications
- Inspecting welding equipment and raw materials
- Monitoring welders working to ensure safety regulations are being met
- Ensuring that the final results meet the basic minimum requirements and international welding standards
